A Designer in the Making

I used to do some sketching  back in the days, I had this aspiration before of being a designer. Honestly, I wished I have pursued something in relation to arts and I'm glad I found my passion in photography. We have to admit that women love to dress up and play with clothes, but my dreams of being one didn't flourished at all. I stopped doing sketches during college when all I have to do is study and keep up with my studies and nursing.

When I saw these sketches popping out on facebook homepage updates posted by Julius, a friend and classmate in college. At first look, I thought that those were sketches of some of his favorite designers that he has compiled, but to my surprise those were his own. I was totally impressed, it reminds me of the sketches on Nina Garcia's Books like the "One Hundred" and "Lookbook" and if you have been reading her books, you know what I am talking about. Not just that Juls is good at sketching, he also knows how to cook with credentials on culinary and has even a very good fashion sense. Yay! Very talented indeed!

Here are some of his sketches. And if these will come to be immortalized soon, I'd be more than willing to collaborate with him. haha Who knows?!!?

O diba ang taray. Inno Sotto ikaw ba yan?! hehe And as Juls claims that he is just starting and a beginner in doing this, in my personal opinion I really don't think so. (hahahah)  Job well done for these.

Credits and big thanks to Julius Aguirre for letting me post his sketches here in my blog.

Funshoot Weekend

Made out of  pages from fashion magazines - Our photo wall.

I haven't been able to post for the past week since vday. It's been a busy week but despite everything I was able to collaborate with a co-nurse with talent in make-up. I first noticed her lashes with mascara on and the pink lipstick she's wearing. Then I found out on how she loves make-up, and has a potential as an aspiring make up artist. Self taught and thanks to You Tube, she has been working freelance since college, o diba bongga! So both freelancers collide without second thoughts and we decided to organize a shoot together with some of our colleagues. It takes to have an extra talent to be nurse... really haha (just kidding). It just shows how flexible we nurses are!

Erica and Suzette while fixing our "model" hehe parang nasa dressing room lang ...

It's quite a while since my organized themed fun shoot. Last Friday, we were able to make it happen by having a PROM-themed shoot, since most of the Junior and Senior High School students are having their proms on February, featuring two contrasting classical Filipino-Chinese and Morena beauties and a quick and fun K-POP themed shoot that I wanted to do for a long time. Having been able to have inspirations from fashion magazines and current trends, we were able to mix and mash our ideas and came out with a beautiful theme, ala preview na ang leveling! (just a wishful thinking haha) Libre lang ang mangarap, right?!?! =D

Make-up and more.....

I'm very excited for this shoot, and I can't wait to share this with everyone else. It was a total success and I am thankful to Suzette for her stunning work of art, painting faces as her beautiful canvass, Erica for the hair (kulot master) and our two models Nayn and Faye for being such a good sport, who were willing enough to pose for the camera.

Gurl Power!!! Meet the whole team. Our Souvenir shot post shoot.

Here's a teaser from our shoot. Will be posting photos within the week! =)

In Black and White

This is one of my Favorite sketches. A portrait of a mother and child. I made this few days after Mother's Day in 1999
Before Digital Photography become popular, there was no Photoshop nor readily available internet. Sketching was one of my favorite past time. I may not be that exceptionally good in drawing and painting but I guess I have the skill, but if not mistaken, I used to ace my Art Class in elementary. My art teachers also never failed to notice my skill and technique. I remember that one of my artwork was chosen to be reproduced as a Christmas card and our prize was a bar of Toblerone (yay!). At a young age, I know that this is the talent that I possess (naks).

Who doesn't know Archie Comics back then? This was a popular reading past time among students.

One of my favorite art medium is Charcoal pencil. It is cost-effective, easy to control and blend, and it is simple as it is in BLACK and WHITE. Maybe I can do some part-time sketching job at the mall or somewhere in downtown near UM Bolton. Nah! Just Kidding. But, even with sketches, I'm really fond of doing portraits. I haven't continued doing sketches lately because over the years I have been busy building a so-called career. Art has evolved unceasingly since there are endless ways to express yourself through many forms and mediums.

In this post, the following sketches are dated more than 10 years ago, I was in high school then. It is just now that I have this opportunity to impart it with everyone, rather than having it all hidden behind the cabinet.

Queen Mother and Sleeping Beauty both in 1999. I am a fan of Disney Princesses.

Alice in Wonderland in 1998

Mr. Santa in 1998

Little Red Riding Hood in 1998

Sonic Boom was a popular game back then in SEGA

Sketched  Mariah Carey's Photo in her album

A Portrait of Mama Mary. Not really happy with this one because of the nose and lips. Pero ok na lang... :)
